I would love someone from the various tour agencies to confirm to me what their policy is as regards donations. The decor and architecture is just insanely beautiful. Perhaps tourists who have paid for this as part of a day trip are unaware that the church is receiving nothing towards maintenance, upkeep and restoration and they believe their tour company has paid the church directly.
There is a large sign suggesting a donation of 4 euros for the church and 1 euro to view the side room. Popcorn , sweets and drinks are available too as well as coffees and drinks in a side bar. Also do lots of weekday deals for pensioners and parents as well as special needs customers. I witnessed two coach parties leaving and saw no one hand a donation to the attendant. I believe some tourists pay tour companies to bring them here but I saw neither of the tour guides handing over donations. Perhaps I am mistaken? I was told that I was one of the very few who had bothered to leave a donation. Brilliant place PLEASE please go there and support them they are lovely people and it deserves to keep going and stay open! I would urge you when you visit to make a donation either to the attendants or put in the box if in plain view. A fantastical place to visit. You can book online and avoid the queues. All are under the watchful eye of the manageress who is always whizzing around and does birthday shout-outs for the Saturday morning movies Try getting that at your local cineworld! A lot of the staff are very young but very very friendly and pleasant. The cleaners in the church volunteers had to contend with some visitors trying to go where they shouldn't and the attendant on duty also a volunteer had some equally 'difficult' 'guests' to deal with. I would love someone from the various tour agencies to confirm to me what their policy is as regards donations. Great atmosphere especially if you see the movie in the main auditorium. The other week I wanted to see the Hunger Games but can't afford babysitters etc so thought about sneaking in to the parents morning showing with daughters old Baby Born wrapped in a blanket The interior is beautiful and the little side room with the replica of the 'bomb' was obviously the main attraction.
